This paper describes the first experimental research effort conducted in the United States on Load Distributive Compressive Anchors (LDCA). LDCAs were developed and first used in South Korea. The research effort was aimed at developing design, installation, and testing criteria suitable for U.S. practices. This paper presents a summary of the research findings that will serve as reference for use by practitioners when selecting, designing, installing, and testing LDCAs. The paper describes the process used for removing the anchors after installation, which achieved a 100% success rate during the tests. Since the completion of the research report, LDCAs have been used successfully for several projects in the U.S. Some of these projects include Hudsons Yards in Manhattan and Maryland Public Health Building in Baltimore, where LDCAs were implemented successfully. The authors recommend that similar research efforts be undertaken in other geological formations within the potential geographical market area to obtain average ultimate bond strengths for preliminary design, and to advance the understanding of this innovative technology.
