For over a decade the nuclear e-learning (or distance learning) standard has been defined by Computer Based Training (CBT) modules written by the National Academy for Nuclear Training and the Electric Power Research Institute. More courses are being offered online, however, the delivery method has changed very little over time. Recently, I benchmarked the graduate distance learning program at the University of Wisconsin -Madison's School of Engineering (UW). The program is ranked number three by U.S. News and World Report for graduate distance engineering programs. The Dominion Training Department is analyzing the application of lessons learned from the benchmarking to improve and possibly expand their recently implemented distance learning format. I believe it is possible to improve training outcomes, enhance knowledge transfer, and encourage innovative solutions to plant issues using distance learning techniques. This paper will provide a brief overview of how this can be achieved.
