The study reiterates the need to investigate ozone problem in urban regions of India. Preliminary data analysis reveals that ozone attains high values in the populated Delhi region. To examine this problem the study adopts time series techniques to remove meteorological effects from ozone so that the effectiveness of past ozone control strategies can be understood from the ozone baseline data. It is seen that seasonal component of ozone has the highest variance contributing 60% of total variance in the decomposed data. Preliminary analysis also reveals that the meteorological variables considered in this study (temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and wind direction) explicate only (9-10)% of total variability of ozone. Further investigations need to be carried out to examine the influence of other meteorological parameters such as mixing heights and solar radiation on the ozone concentrations in Delhi.
