The earlier proposed classical Z-source inverter has a unique LC network which exhibits an additional boosting flexibility in a single stage without increasing the number of active switches. The Z-source inverters are generally more robust and reliable as they are not affected by shoot-through. But their boosting gain is compromised by low modulation index and high component stress across the devices. To overcome these shortcomings of voltage fed Z-source inverter, this paper presents a performance improved switched inductor embedded quasi Z-source inverter. This utilizes the switched inductor concept to the embedded quasi Z-source Inverter (EqZSI) to achieve the strong boosting ability in minimum shoot-through period. The operating principle and the topological analysis of elementary and generalized PV powered SL-EqZSI is verified in simulation and experiment. The control strategy for the proposed system is implemented using advanced microcontroller (MSP430FG4618) which is user compatibility and cost effective solution. The performance is also compared with SL-ZSI and SL-qZSI.
