Coaxial electrospun scaffolds (1:1 gelatin:PVA and 3:1 gelatin:PVA), as well as scaffolds composed solely of gelatin or PVA possessed some degree, though minimal, of platelet activation under static conditions. Also, the coaxial and gelatin scaffolds possessed varying degrees of platelet spreading, whereas PVA had minimal platelet attachment. Understanding the balance between pro-thrombotic and anti-thrombotic properties of electrospun nanofibers is vital in utilization of these as building block materials for cardiovascular devices.
