摘要

There has been a growing research interests in open data and open government recently. In 2012, the government in Taiwan has launched an “Open Data Platform” and encouraged citizens to participate in public policy and to monitor the transparency of governments. In this study, two open data of Taoyuan city government in Taiwan were collected to explore the relationships of citizen hotline reporting and actual traffic accidents. Correlation and regression analyses were employed to examine the association of variables in these two datasets. The findings showed that road potholes and out of order traffic lights were two most reported problems in the citizen hotline 1999 in Taoyuan city. The analytic results suggested that road potholes reported by citizens in hotline 1999 were significantly related to the actual number of traffic accidents caused by potholes and street bumps. We conclude that data analytics of citizen hotline 1999 is crucial and it can be used to predict the trends and different causes of traffic accidents.
