Dr. Anna Tedeschi is a research scientist at Institute for Agricultural andForestry System (National Research Council of Italy - CNR). Duringher 13 years career, she had the opportunity to deal with scientifi cand resource management issues in water-scarce environments.Salinity under climate change becomes more severe and the areaunder higher salinity levels will increase with a higher vulnerability ofthe environment system.In this scenario and in different environments such as in Spain, Chinaand Italy, her expertise focused on the effect of salinity on the cropproduction and soil physical properties, was applied to control the soil moisture and salinityand thereby keeping the plants in optimal conditions to achieve good yields by using lesswater. The control of the soil moisture and salinity could affect the soil physical properties,such as porosity, water retention curve and the water holding capacity estimates from it, andthe soil structure stability.
