A research was done on the effect of trace quantity irrigation, a newly invented irrigationsystem using double-layer structure to solve clogging problem under extra slow fl ow rateand by so to provide water in line with plant requirement, on wine grape culture in Ningxiaprovince, China. Result showed 52.4% water could be saved compared with drip irrigationfor same yield, emitter fl ow uniformity rate was 90% when lateral lines were extended 350m.Wetted perimeter was from 20cm to 80 cm in depth when lateral lines were buried 40 cmdeep, and width of wetness was 50 cm to 60 cm. Plants grew vigorously under trace quantityirrigation and 20% more yield was achieved compared with drip irrigation. Plants roots werekept in optimized situations as water content in soil was adequate and there was plenty of air.Mulching was not necessary as there was very little evaporation.
