Rail freight transportation in Brazil is experiencing a period of maturity. After 16 years of rail concession to the private sector, the rail transportation improved, passed through a whole period of revitalization and now reaps the rewards. The numbers recorded by the sector demonstrate the good momentum railways have been experiencing since the denationalization. Although there are only few rails cutting Brazil, rail transportation is responsible for handling 25% of all freight that is transported in the country. The projection of the government is to increase this share to 32% by 2020, thanks to the investments of the Plan for Accelerated Growth (PAC) for the extension of the railway. But this performance is not by chance.
