Real-time simulation of power electronics requires a very small time step, which is a major challenge. This paper presents the real-time simulation of a solar power conditioner, which is achieved on an FPGA using the general electric hardware solver (eHS). The eHS is developed to facilitate the implementation of FPGA-based models for power converters with complex topologies, such as the solar power conditioner that consists of a zigzag-connected chopper (ZCC) and a series active power filter. The real-time simulation results of the OPAL-RT eHS solver are validated by comparing with the results produced by off-line simulation at a time-step of 100 nanoseconds using the PLECS blockset.
