摘要

Voltage source converter based on high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) has been widely used in the transmission areas and achieved good operating result, and modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a new voltage source converter topology for HVDC. MMC consists of three phases and each phase has the same number of sub-modules (SMs) in series in upper and lower leg. This paper shows the topology and operating principle of MMC and how to build a sub-module by using HVIGBT. At last testing result was showed.
