Due to the increased use of the traditional and advanced materials, coupled with the rise of new and more severe service requirements and the need for lower costs, there is an actual need to study the behavior of materials exposed to the forming processes(Workability). This can correspondingly affect the product service properties. Workability is defined as the "extent to which the material can be found without the occurrence of an undesirable condition on the macro and micro scales". It is a combination of both material and process variables, since both types affect the maximum strain achieved during plastic forming. Workability is particularly important in the metal forming process design stage since it is an important requirement in the analysis of metal forming as a system. This article presents the some aspects of workability of different materials and highlights such principles for the new and advanced materials and forming processes.
