Characterization and successive maintenance of transfer standard for APMP inter-laboratory comparison of hydraulic pressures

Inter-laboratory comparisons are important to ensure the international equivalence of the developed national standards. The pilot institute of a comparison, however, has a heavy workload in preparing and characterizing a transfer standard. To reduce such workload, a transfer standard for hydraulic pressures of up to 250 MPa was developed in advance using a precise pressure transducer, and has been maintained for a potential inter-laboratory comparison. The characteristics of the pressure transducer, such as the temperature effect, short-term and long-term stabilities, were evaluated using a general stepwise procedure. The pressure transducer showed totally satisfying performance as the transfer standard. Now the transfer standard is in a stable condition, and ready for use. A robust and efficient measurement procedure was also suggested based on experiments with different procedures.
