Design and Implementation of Remote Terminal Unit For Automatic Dam Safety Monitoring System

In the present day, the automatic remote monitoring system for the large dam operation is playing an important role. The many causes of the dam failures are lagged of warning system. The real-time and online remote monitoring system is needed. The acquisition unit that converts the physical value (such as temperature, water level, etc.) to the digital value is used as a front-end equipment. Almost of the remote monitoring system use common acquisition unit such as Programmable Logic Control (PLC), data logger or Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), they are not designed and suitable for automatic dam safety monitoring purpose. The new designed technique of Automatic Dam Safety Remote Terminal Unit, ADS-RTU and implementation of ADS-RTU was described.
