The Near-Term Task Force (NTTF) was formulated by the U.S. NRC to address safety issues essential to the Fukushima accident. The NTTF recommends strengthening and integrating onsite emergency response capabilities such as EOPs, SAMGs, and EDMGs. The recommendations require realistic and periodic training and exercises for all related plant staff and decision-makers during emergencies. However, current safety analysis technologies are not adequate to meet these needs. GSE's post-Fukushima simulator technology would provide a single unifying platform or solution essential to meeting various new post-Fukushima requirements to be taken for the whole plant organization; and further overarching goals of power uprate and plant life extension. GSE Systems, Inc. developed the PSA-HD?, which integrates EPRI's MAAP severe accident code on its matured High-Definition (HD) simulator platform. HD simulator technology adopts a client-server structure that is flexible to couple and synchronize multiple instances of engineering codes. The integrated simulator systems represent multiple systems and units in entire plant site. Additional features and tools, such as advanced user's graphic interface (GUI), central database, simulation control and data plotting tool, are included to support engineering analysis. Besides, simulator technology supports risk-informed regulation framework for rector licensing, license renewal, and power uprate. The framework requires quantifying uncertainties of reactor safety margin. GSE's HD platform is suited to couple with uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis (UQ/SA) tool. The coupling of HD simulator platform with UQ/SA capability is proposed here as a one-stop solution. The coupling technology is applicable to various UQ/SA methodologies.
