Large flattened mode optical fiber for high output energy pulsed fiber lasers

An Yb{sup}(3+)-doped optical fiber with a refractive index profile that distributes the intensity of light uniformly across the core of the fiber has been designed. A >2X decrease in stimulated Raman scattering was measured.
