In conclusion, a sensitive polarization switching method was developed for PDG characterizations. In a straight, 3 m long EDF, a transient PDG was observed which is due to PHB alone (no PDL). A steady state PDG of 0.02 dB is mainly accounted for by the gain difference for signal laser polarized parallel or orthogonal to the polarization of the pump.
