Spaceborne parasitic Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) system can remarkably improve the interferometric SAR performance. Time and frequency synchronization is key problem of such systems because the transmitters and receivers are mounted on separate platforms. The novel error model considering the time and frequency synchronization errors is presented. The performance of the range and azimuth compression with the synchronization errors is analyzed in detail. The error transfer model from the synchronization errors to the interferometric phase error is established and the stability requirement of the Ultra Stable Oscillator (USO) in parasitic InSAR application is pointed out. The analysis, which is proved by simulations, offers the principle basis of correct time and frequency synchronization requirements for parasitic InSAR system design.
