A Ku-band precipitation radar on Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite provides backscattering coefficients (σ{sup}0) of Earth surfaces. The data is used to investigate characteristics of rain forest that shows very unique radar reflectivity. A diurnal cycle is found in σ{sup}0 of Amazon rain forest, to show maximum σ{sup}0 in the morning and the minimum in the evening. Assuming that the cycle is caused by dew drops on leaves of forests, a model of the dew drops is developed to calculate its contribution to change of rain forest σ{sup}0.
