An estimation method for the parameters of elliptic cone surface

摘要

A new kind of method is proposed in this paper to estimate the parameters of elliptic cone surface. In this method, translation procedure is used to eliminate the deviations in elliptic cone surface equation. In order to describe the normal expression of elliptic cone surface, rotation procedure is employed to introduce a variable that represents the angle between a semi axis and a coordinate axis, and thus, normally, the elliptic cone surface can be described by a typical form elliptic cone surface equation that rotates around Z coordinate axis. Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is chosen to fit the given points from the point cloud, i.e., to estimate the parameters of elliptic cone surface. The proposed estimation method is validated by real experiments.
