Performance Analysis of Unified Power Quality Conditioner Controlled with ANN and Fuzzy Logic based Control approaches

Usage of Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) has become customary for simultaneous compensation of power quality issues like voltage imbalance, current harmonic compensation. UPQC when brought into operation it should exhibit better dynamic performance for satisfactory compensation of power quality related issues. The control scheme used for control of UPQC converters play a critical role in dynamic performance enhancement. This paper emphasizes in comparing the performance of indices of power quality items like current harmonic elimination and voltage compensation when UPQC is controlled with controllers like Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based control schemes. The System is modeled and simulated using Simpower systems Blockset, Fuzzy Logic Control Toolbox and Neural Network Toolbox of MATLAB.
