Malaria is affecting millions of people in different parts of the world. The conventional way of diagnosing this disease is by examining stained peripheral blood smear under the microscope which is time consuming. This may lead to inaccuracy and inconsistency. The screening of microscopic images of a blood sample with color image processing approach involves pre-processing, Red blood corpuscles (RBC) Segmentation, RGB to HSV color space conversion and segmentation of the parasite. The used image processing approach helps in detecting the plasmodium vivax. Initially Platelets and smaller artefacts are removed from the microscopic image before the segmentation of Red Blood Corpuscles (RBC). After segmentation of RBCs the image is converted into HSV color space, for the detection of the parasite. The proposed work is to detect plasmodium vivax from leishman stained microscopic blood image and which promises to support pathologists for faster diagnosis.
