This study is focused on selective withdrawal with point sink for both the discrete and continuous stratifications. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) solver is used and the boundary conditions are formulated to generate the flow-field for both types of stratification. A theoretical expression is developed to determine the incipient Froude number considering the effect of boundaries for discrete stratification with a point sink. It is observed that the effect of boundary is insignificant when the ratio of the distance of the boundary to the distance of the interface from the point sink is greater than one. The incipient Froude number for the continuous stratification is found to be less than the incipient Froude number for the discrete stratification. It is found that the CFD solver can successfully model velocities and the interface profile in the selective withdrawal scenario for both the discrete and continuous stratification.
