Emergence of new species Arcobacter and its survival in diverse environmental niches has necessitated the work to be done to detect the carriage of Arcobacter species in animal origin foods, in particular, from developing countries. In the present study, overall prevalence of Arcobacter in beef was detected as 26.35% where Arcobacter butzleri was the frequently detected species. Similarly, milk samples from cattle carried 5.7% Arcobacter with A. butzleri as dominant species. There was no significant difference (p=0.4223) in detection of Arcobacter from machine collected and manually collected milk. In conclusion, presence of Arcobacter in milk and beef can pose threat to human beings.
