In this paper, thermal cells/batteries with LiSi/Cu_3V_2O_8 chemistry have been studied. The cell open circuit voltage at 500°C is >3.0V and working voltage at 99mA/cm~2 current density is over 2.5V. Cu_3V_2O_8 cathode is able to deliver 376 mAh/g specific capacity corresponding to 5.9 electron transfer per formula. A 30V thermal battery has also been assembled and evaluated. The battery is able to work at 340 mA/cm~2 constant current density (>10C rate) and 990mA/cm~2 pulse current density (>30C rate).
