The destabilized emission of semiconductor lasers due to delayed optical feedback is characterized by simultaneously detecting intensity and frequency dynamics with high temporal and spectral resolution. Temporal information about frequency dynamics is extracted utilizing a heterodyne technique combined with a sliding Fourier Transformation. Our experiments provide new perspectives for the analysis, interpretation and utilization of complex laser dynamics.
