Smart Intelligent Agent Assistants for Industry: A Case Study (SIAAI)

Researchers in computer science, information systems and operational management have produced many innovative techniques in these fields during the last decade. In the light of the advancements in distributive computing and the popular acceptance of e-commerce by the general public, industry needs to keep up with the progression in information technology and adopt some of the innovative achievements such as intelligent agents, fuzzy logic and neural network into its administrative activities and management. This paper proposes an integrated usage of intelligent agent, rule-base, fuzzy logic and artificial neural network in the administration and management of manufacturing industry. The garment manufacturing industry is specially selected as this is an international industry and needs to be dynamic to stay competitive. To coordinate various activities in the manufacturing industry with fuzzy logic and the neural network concept, intelligent agents with special features are used. By so doing, it is envisaged to minimise human interference during the manufacturing process, thus providing a more consistent administrative approach across all branches of an organisation that might be geographically dispersed. The experimental work reported has been demonstrated in the context of management of stock in the garment manufacturing industry and the feedback has been reassuring.
