DEWA Distribution Power Asset Management System in View of ISO 55000 Standard

In the race for excellence there is no end, and the utilities approach is to optimise Asset Life-Cycle activities. DEWA's Distribution network has an intensive portfolio of assets, with all the related cost, risk & performance involved in the whole life cycle management process. Nowadays, Distribution Asset Management department is facing an uphill challenge, with continual increase in an already huge asset portfolio. Challenges, resulted by the ageing infrastructure and the increasing trends of failure rates, are two of the most arguable and debatable topics. Theft of copper is yet a new risk which is to be managed as per the DEWA Asset Management strategy. Hidden assets, such as cables are a critical part of the infrastructure which needs to be addressed & monitored. Distribution Asset Management aims to optimise risk, cost & performance, and to ensure the quality and reliability of electrical supply to DEWA consumers, this can be done within the guidelines of the ISO 55001. This paper will highlight the AM system and challenges and the optimised of the Distribution Power Asset Management under the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority.
