In conclusion, BMI is probably inadequate to assess nutritional status in MHD, since the decrease in lean body mass is at least in part balanced by the increase in ECW. Data derived from BIA, in particular phase angle, reactance, bdody cell massa and extra-cellular water pecent of total body watger are significantly correlated with serum albumin, which is a validated marker of malnutrition in MHD patients. BIA seems even more sensitive than serum albumin concentration to predict the risk of death in MHD patients.
