It can be seen in Table 1 that there is no "silver bullet" treatment for waste management of organic waste. While uncontrolled composting has been considered a "green" management program, it has the highest VOC emissions when uncontrolled and not necessarily the best GHG practice. Requiring 90 percent control of composting emissions does have low emissions, but may be prohibitively expensive when compared to other management programs. Landfilling organic waste in landfills with high collection rates and energy recovery also has a good emission profile, but maintaining a high recovery rate is challenging and requires a strong commitment to LFG control Anaerobic digestion has a strong GHG profile but can be prohibitively expensive.
