The examine of time series of 24-h concentrations of OC and EC in PM_(2.5) at eight urban and rural sites in PDR during 2009 winter provides insights into the impact of emission and meteorology on their respective levels and patterns. OC and EC concentrations exhibited more or less similar daily variations at all the sites. At DYW, different variation patterns in daily OC and EC concentrations during some periods reflect the impact of land and see breeze. The two rural sites, GH and DYW, had comparable OC and EC levels while for the six urban locations in Foshan and Guangzhou, average OC and EC concentrations varied at much higher levels ranging 16.6 to 23.1 μgC m~(-3) and from 8.4 to 11.1 μgC m~(-3), respectively.
