The study was conducted to assess the HAPs- and VOCs-reduction effectiveness of Stage II VRS at Korea's gas stations. Before Stage II VRS installation, high THC concentration was often found. However, after Stage II VRS installation, the frequency of high THC concentration has been reduced. In particular, leakage of benzene, a known carcinogen, has been considerably reduced. As a result, Stage II VRS is thought to be a way to effectively reduce HAPs and VOCs by preventing fugitive HAPs and VOCs emissions while fueling vehicles. This study is expected to be used as policy data to inform officials of the effectiveness of Stage II VRS and to prompt Stage II VRS installation at gas stations.
