Horizontal Vapor Intrusion Protection Wells (HVIPWs) provide cost-effective and non-intrusive vapor mitigation within active facilities. Additional benefits include non-disruption of active facility operations, simplification of extraction and treatment equipment specification and installation, reduction in operation and maintenance costs including reduction of electrical usage. The radius of influence generated by a single HVIPW is often much greater than what can be achieved utilizing numerous vertical extraction wells. HVIPWs are more effective than trenching due to much less site disruption, the ability to go directly beneath the facility floor, and the elimination of short circuiting of ambient air to the soil extraction gases often encountered subsequent to trenching due to disruption of the soil column above the extraction screen.
