Most of RC buildings in Japan have spandrel walls and/or hanging walls. These walls make the height of column short and the realization of the beam-yielding mechanism difficult. The RC short columns with poor reinforcement transversally tend to behave in brittle manners due to shearing failure. There are many researches on shear reinforcement of RC short columns, the reinforcing method by steeltube was proposed by Tomii (Tomii et al. 1989). The RC column confined by steel tube transversally is called as Tubed-Reinforced-Concrete (TRC) column. The TRC columns have been studied experimentally and show ductile manners with sufficient energy dissipation capacities even if the test specimens have short proportions. The experimental results indicate that the RC frame composed of spandrel beams and TRC short columns prevent brittle failure.
