Monitoring heart activity continuously is highly desirable in patients with heart conditions. In the conventional electrocardiography (E CG), galvanic Ag/AgCl electrodes are directly attached to the skin to obtain E C G signals. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of recording E C G signals without skin contact based on a spherical volume conductor model. A novel capacitive electrode is designed and evaluated. Our theoretical study and experiments have shown promising results of this new electrode.
