Solid backfill mining, as a green mining technology, has theadvantages of a higher resource recovery, less damage to theenvironment and the ability to dispose of waste underground. It hasbeen applied successfully in the Xingtai and Xinwen mining areasin China.Strata behavior and the movement of overburden strata in thismining method are very different from fully mechanized longwallmining, which results in a natural caving, because the gob is filledwith waste rock, fly ash and other backfill material. The results offield measurements showed that the periodic weighting intervalof the main roof is longer; the magnitude of periodic weightingis smaller; the peak and zone of influence of the front abutmentpressure are smaller than those in fully mechanized mining; thatmajor deformation of mine roadways occurs within the influencezones of the abutment pressures; that the falling space of immediateroof is smaller, with the lower portion falling more sufficiently thanthe upper; that the main roof subsides slowly; and that the fallingheight of the overlying strata is greatly reduced.
