Bit patterned media is one of promising candidates which extend recording densities of perpendicular magnetic recording beyond 1 Tbit/in~2. However, when the packing density of the magnetic dots is increased, magnetostatic interaction between the dots is increased. This causes increased switching field width between the lowest and highest reversal fields of the dot array, which reduces the shift margin of writing in the down and cross track directions. We have proposed a method to reduce the effect of the interaction introducing exchange coupling between the magnetic dots. This paper proposes another simpler technique of using inclined magnetic anisotropy for the dots, which is effective to reduce the effect of the magnetostatic interaction between the dots and to realize high areal densities beyond 2 Tbit/in~2.
