The paper report that the connector or the imperfect connecting of polarization maintaining fiber (PMFs) induce the significant frequency modulation to amplitude modulation (FM-AM) conversion for the phase modulation pulse. So the phase modulation pulse is not suitble to propagation in the complex system with many PMFs. We improved the fiber front end system by replacing the position of frequency modulator and adding a polarizer behind it. The theoretical and experimental results indicated that there is almost no distortion for the output phase modulation pulse with the improved system. These results are of benefit to the design of the fiber front end system.
