Energy meter reading is an expensive and tedious affair. To issue the bill, a meter reader person has to go manually and collect the reading from each meter in an area. Then it will be updated in software to automate billing process and payment system. When the manual meter reading and bill data entry process are automated the laborious work and financial waste would be reduced. This paper proposes a new design and implementation of MSP430 Based intelligent single phase energy meter which can measure the meter reading. A wireless communication system is integrated with this electronic energy meter to have remote access over the usage of electricity. The wireless communication taken here is RF communication. Using RF communication the meter reading from the meter is transmitted to the area coordinator. In the area coordinator the meter reading can be received by RF receiver and details will be sending to the electricity office using internet. Finally in electricity office a system can be maintained with a data logger can be used to collect the details about the meter reading and bill will be generated.. This system will help to eliminate the drawbacks of billing management system.
