Load profile is well-known on a LV distribution feeder. However charging of electric vehicles will have a yet unforeseen impact on the system which must be dealt with. The appearance and wide penetration of this new load-type may cause problems on the distribution as well as on the transmission system. DSOs will have to deal with overloading protection and also power quality issues. The paper gives a brief summary of the main characteristics of electric vehicle charging, then follows with modelling and prediction of distribution system voltage distortion and load demand due to electric vehicle battery charging by means of computer simulation.
