Information on monthly and yearly SO2 and NO2 vertical column density means over the Yangtze River Delta from January 2005 to November 2010 was reported based the remote sensing data from the OMI sensor. In conclusion, from spatial perspective, the yearly SO2 average mean is high along the Nanjing-Shanghai railway line. And the further it is from the railway line, the less average mean is. The distribution surrounding the cities likens an island. The spatial distribution of NO2 shares the similar characteristic. From the temporal perspective, the yearly average means of SO2 are of a decreasing tendency, which reveals that the 11th Five-Year Plan do control the emission of SO2. In terms of the monthly average mean of SO2 each year, it always drops from the high level in January and then rebounces to the original high level before the following year. However, there is a increment of yearly average means of NO2, excluding Shanghai. Coming to monthly average mean of NO2, it fluctuates regularly with a good periodicity. To sum up, we can conclude the 11th Five-Year Plan have the influence on the emission of SO2 and NO2.
