LID Helps Define North Bethany as a Community of Distinction in suburban Oregon

For nearly 40 years, Oregon has enacted land use laws to control urban sprawl and protect agricultural land. Washington County envisioned the recent 800 acre expanded urban growth boundary in North Bethany as a "Community of Distinction" and wanted to raise the bar for community planning in Oregon. Among the goals adopted by project stakeholders was one stating a variety of parks, protected open spaces, and water quality facilities will result in a designed and coordinated system integrated within the urban fabric. As the project stakeholder responsible for stormwater management and in the North Bethany Study area, Clean Water Services saw a unique opportunity to come up with a drainage master plan for a large, undeveloped area that considered what works and improve upon what is not working.
