RESTORATION AND REVITALIZATION OF WOOD STRUCTURES IN THE CONGRESS CLUB IN BRASILIA,BRAZIL

The Congress Club is a traditional institution of Brasilia, and was installed in the first years after the inauguration of the federal capital. With a privileged location on the shores of Lake Paranoá, this club was much frequented by Brazilian political class, especially by representatives of the House and Senate. As part of its facilities, wood buildings were designed and implemented like the restaurant and the lobby. With unconventional structural solutions using Amazonian lesser known wood species, these buildings had become a reference to the club during 30 years of existence. After this period, reforms were made in the buildings to its revitalization and adaptation to new requirements of the institution. Thus, studies were carried out to check the structural behavior of those buildings and its durability, being also evaluated the necessary interventions for its future performance. This article presents the restoring work of these structures, highlighting the performance of proposed solutions over time and contributing to the consolidation of efficient criteria for the design and implementation of wood structures in general. New structures were designed and implemented together with the renewed wood buildings, contributing to preserve the Congress Club tradition of building in wood.
