Fire safety has always been of great concern to timber building constructors throughout the world. Following the adoption of performance-based design by many countries, more and more timber structures, especially multi-storey light-frame wood structures are being built. In order to enhance performance-based design for such light-frame wood structures, a three dimensional computer model has been developed to assess the thermal and structural response of solid wood joist floor assemblies exposed to a standard fire. The assembly in question consists of two layers of gypsum board, a solid wood joist, and two layers of plywood as the sub-floor.
