Within industry, the subject of security is gaining ever more importance. This appears, among others, to the follow-up norm of machine safety, to which the EN ISO-13849-1 will come into force on 01.01.2012. The norm demands that every manufacturer must engineer machines that conform to these safety standards. The danger of person, machine and environment is to be minimised through technical facilities of a tolerable measure. Safety must be guaranteed under normal, undisturbed conditions but must also not be lost with the presence of faults [1]. Subsequently, to this norm, FANUC Robotics has developed a new version of the Dual Check Safety (DCS) software, which is available for your robots. The DCS enables safe interaction between robot and operator and the robot can be programmed in such a way, so that it, itself, is able to check and avert possible dangers to the operator. In the lecture, Josef Fruhmann will highlight the possibilities and boundaries of safe interaction between operator and robot.
