A semi-quantitative risk assessment (semi-QRA) is less rigorous than a full-blown QRA, but itnecessarily involves some or all of the same elements as that more comprehensive study. Asemi-QRA may not deliver a full and complete picture of risk, but it can be quite useful in itsown right. A semi-QRA study was recently completed for a portion of a refinery’s alkylationprocess containing hydrogen fluoride (HF), and that study serves as a good illustration of thevalue of a semi-QRA.
