摘要

This paper uses a large micro-data set on LDVs characteristics to explore the global consequences of a convergence to low power vehicles. The evidence shows that vehicle power is a critical dimension to LDVs contribution to CO2 emissions. The gains to moving fast to a management of vehicle power are concentrated more in the US market than in the EU given the different configuration of LDVs characteristics. The simulations performed show that restrictions on power could provide, in the most stringent scenario, a reduction of 2.5% of global CO2 emissions or a 25% reduction from the current scenario. These simulations do not purport to be a normative exercise but rather a benchmark on the magnitude of likely effects to assess global consequences, with implications for incoming large developing nations that will be major contributors in the future
