Comparative assessment of few future energy and climate change mitigation options for Lithuania in 2020 performed indicated that nuclear and combined cycle gas turbine technologies are very similar energy options in terms of costs taking into account GHG emission reduction costs. Comparative assessment of these energy options requires evaluation of the potentials and costs for geological CO_2 and nuclear waste storage as the main uncertainties in comparative assessment of electricity generation technologies are related with these back-end technologies. The paper analyses the main characteristics of possible geological storage of CO_2 and NW options in Lithuania.Geological and hydrogeological investigations performed in Lithuania revealed that crystalline rocks and clayey geological formations are most promising for the geological disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) in Lithuania. These two geological formations can also be applied for CO-2 geological storage as CO_2 storage in deep saline aquifers through mineral trapping is possible. Total CO_2 storage potential in Lithuania amounts to about 11.21 Gt however the current well developed CO_2 storage technologies such as structural trapping has very low potential in Lithuania - 41,5 Mt.
