The plastic injection molding is widely used for the manufacturing of complicated-shaped and high value-added products. The plastic injection molding machine is the most important equipment for the industry. The development of the injection molding machine greatly affects the application of plastic parts in the fields of electronics, telecommunication, medical treatment and auto industries. In recent years, the rapid development of the control technique in the injection molding machine provides conditions for the sophisticated injection molding. In this paper, the characteristics of the mold separation of the injection molding machine are systemically analyzed. The paper points out the relation between mold separation and product weight and verifies how the injection pressure and injection time affect the mold separation. Meanwhile, the paper discusses the results of time-based and mold separation-based switchover control. It shows that there is a linear relation between mold separation and product weight. Meanwhile the injection pressure and injection time influence mold separation linearly and the mold separation-based switchover control results in higher product weight repeatability.
