Isotropic graphite/SiC composite were prepared using self-sintering materials containing dispersed silicon precursors. The advantages supplied by the self-sintering carbon precursors were used to make a composite with excellent mechanical properties. Several Si sources (Triphenyl silane (TPS), Si-nanoparticles, SiC- nanoparticles, SiO_2-ananoparticles) were used to study the effect of the Si source in the SiC dispersion in the matrix and the influence in the mechanical and thermal properties. Finally, a Si source was selected to study the effect of Si concentration introduced in the precursor in the mechanical and thermal properties.
